How to Exercise on a Budget

It’s no secret that gym memberships can be quite costly. Depending on the type of gym you join—i.e., boutique fitness studios versus health club chains—the extra fees can be a source of frustration, especially in addition to other monthly bills. Some companies offer their employees a discount on gym memberships, but not all employers provide this same benefit.

Nonetheless, you aren’t out of options! It’s certainly possible to work on your physique without spending a lot of money.

Sometimes FREE is the best option. You don’t have to invest in exercise equipment. But if you want to go the free route, know that you’ll be doing a lot of cardio and bodyweight exercises. Walking is a convenient and easy way to get started—and you can walk as fast or as slow as you like. It’s also a low-impact activity that can help you build endurance and strengthen your heart. And the best part is, you can do it anywhere!

Since you are not using any equipment, you’re going to want to integrate some bodyweight exercises. Even though you’re not lifting heavy weights, bodyweight exercises can be quite challenging. If you’ve ever done a plank, you know it’s not easy to hold that position for long. For beginners, we recommend doing push-ups, planks, and squats first before moving on to more challenging workouts. Once you get the hang of it, you can start with combination exercises like burpees and mountain climbers. A total-body workout, like high-intensity interval training, will increase your strength and burn. At first, you’ll probably feel exhausted after just a few sets.

The only downside to bodyweight workouts is that it will take time for you to see improvements. Also, you won’t be able to work on specific muscle groups like you can while lifting weights. The answer to that is using the CanDo® Exercise Band.

CanDo® Bands are extremely low budget and can help you with virtually any exercise. You can use them to do both upper- and lower-body workouts and target specific muscle groups without having to buy heavy weights. All you need to do is unravel and cut the size band you want or choose from our precut options. There are a variety of different resistances to choose from, so you can find the band that is right for you.

There’s no shame in exercising on a budget. You can do a lot of exercise without spending a dime and still get the same results as if you went to the gym. There are also good low budget options such as the CanDo® Exercise Band, which can really add value to your exercise routine. Remember that you don’t have to break the bank to stay fit and healthy.
