A good counter to this is using a paraffin wax treatment. This treatment can moisturize the skin, relieve joint and muscle pain and remove dead skin cells. All you need to perform a paraffin wax treatment is a WaxWel® Paraffin Bath and paraffin wax. The WaxWel® Paraffin Bath unit large enough to treat the hands and feet, yet is very portable and can even be used in the home. For home use, below we’ve listed some helpful tips you should follow when applying a paraffin wax treatment:

Step 1: Gather Supplies

To do an at-home paraffin wax treatment, you’ll need about four pounds of WaxWel® paraffin wax, a WaxWel® paraffin bath unit, a plastic liner bag, moisturizer, a towel and a bootie or mitt depending on if you are treating your hand or foot.

Step 2: Melt the wax

The easiest way to melt paraffin wax at home is to use the WaxWel® paraffin bath unit. To begin, take the cover off the unit and add the amount of solid wax blocks desired. Turn the unit on and let the wax sit for around an hour, or until the wax is fully melted. One pound of solid wax takes approximately one hour to melt.

Step 3:  Prepare before dipping

Once the wax is all melted, it is then ready to use. Don’t get to hasty though, it is recommended to wash your area of treatment (hands / feet) well and then dry them with a lint-free towel. Doing this takes any unnecessary dirt off before dipping either your hand or foot in the wax. Once you are clean, make sure all jewelry is removed to avoid it from dipping into the wax. Next, massage a few drops of olive oil into the skin of the area you’re going the treat.

Step 4: Apply the wax

Finally, it is time to dip into the wax. paraffin wax treatmentTo begin, dip your entire hand or foot into the wax and leave it in for a few seconds until a layer forms over the area. Next, you must wait for the wax to dry. The wax will dry when the shine has faded. Once dry, put your hand or foot back into the wax, going a little less deep than you did before. This stops warm wax from getting under the previous layers of wax, preventing burns. Repeat this process until you have at least 10 layers of wax on your hand or foot.

Step 5: Bag your hand or foot

Once you’ve applied at least 10 layers of wax to your hand or foot, put a large plastic bag over that. Then place it in a cloth mitt or bootie. You can also wrap it in a towel if you do not have a mitt or bootie. Leave the wax on your skin for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 6: Remove the wax

After 15 to 20 minutes, remove your hand from the mitt or towel and the plastic bag. Use a soft tissue to remove the waxy residue from your skin. Next, apply moisturizer to your skin. Once you’ve completed your treatment, clean the paraffin bath unit and cover any extra paraffin wax and store it in a safe place for your next treatment.
