Workout While Sitting Down

If you work in an office, you spend a lot of your time sitting down. Making you inactive during most of your day. Our bodies are meant to be active throughout the day, so we can get that blood flowing and remain healthy. What if we told you that you can remain active while also sitting at your desk? Here are some exercises you can do while sitting down:

Soleus Push-ups

The Soleus Push-up is a calf workout that can help improve your blood glucose regulation while also strengthening your calves. To begin, place both of your feet flat on the floor and make sure you sit up straight. Then, lift the back half of your feet to raise your heel before slowly going back to starting position. Do this for about 3 sets of 20 reps each.

Upper-Body Twist

The Upper-Body Twist is an upper body exercise that improves your range of motion. To begin, make sure that you are sitting up straight and your feet are flat on the ground. Then, cross your arms over each other (as if you are hugging yourself.) Then, twist your body to left and then to the right. Holding for 5 seconds every time you twist. Be sure that your hips continue to face forward as you are doing this exercise.

Seated Toe Taps

Seated Toe Taps can help strengthen and stretch your ankles while seated. Which is essential so that your ankles don’t become stiff one day after hours of inactivity. To begin, make sure that you are sitting up straight with your knees at a 90 degree angle and your feet flat on the ground. Then, slowly pull up your toes off the ground and then slowly bring them back down. Do this for about 3 sets of 10 reps each.

If you would like to amp up the difficulty on these exercises, we recommend using the CanDo® Balance Disc. This inflatable vestibular disc mimics the movement and shape of an Inflatable ball when used on any seat. Allowing you to use your core to maintain balance while seated. Pair that with some of the exercises we just mentioned, and you’ll have a nice workout all while sitting at your desk. The CanDo® Balance Disc comes in two sizes (14” and 26”) and various colors to choose from.
